Inset Gas Fires
Inset gas fires are designed to fit into a fireplace opening of 16 inch to 18 inch wide and 22 inch to 23 inch high, with flue types ranging from class 1, class 2 and pre-cast flues. The heat output of these types of inset gas fires range from 2kw to 5kw, and the more the fire costs, the more engineering has gone into the development of the gas fire.
Wall Hung Gas Fires
Wall hung gas fires still need a chimney, and usually will require building work to reshape the chimney opening to suit the fire, the fire will require one of the following flue options, class1, class2 or pre cast. Some of the larger wall mounted fires may need a flue liner placed in the chimney please check with your installer before purchasing.
Freestanding Gas Fires
Freestanding gas fires are the type that sits on a fireplace hearth in front of the chimney opening, these fires will have a back plate that will need to be fitted to cover the fireplace opening and be sealed, this comes with the fire so no worry's about locating and purchasing one. These freestanding fires are the most efficient fires on the market as they provide a good heat output.
Balanced Flue Gas Fires
Balanced flue gas fires are for homes with no chimney or prefabricated chimney. The gas fire will be sited against the wall, this must be an outside wall so the balanced flue pipe can discharge straight outside the building. The Gas fire will take the air it needs to burn from the outside and the fumes will also be sent straight out the back. All balanced flued gas fires will have a glass front to them so the combustion of the gasses are completely separate from the air in the room that. Balanced flue gas fires come as freestanding gas fires that sit on the hearth or inset, this means that it will need to be cut into the cavity of the building so the fire sits flush to the wall.
Powered Flue Gas Fires
Powered flue gas fires are the same style as balanced flue but have a fan on the outer wall so the fumes are fan assisted from the gas fire, powere flued gas fires don't have glass fronts to them, as they take the air from the room they are installed from. This gives a more natural look to the fuel bed as there is no glass barrier. The heat outputs are slightly less that of the balanced flue fires but some times you need to sacrifice a bit of efficiency to get a real looking gas fire. Some say the powered flue fan unit that is positioned on the outside wall is a bit noisy, but in my opinion i found that you may have a slight hum from fan when on.
Flueless Gas Fires
The flueless gas fire requires no flue at all, it can be installed on a wall or with a fireplace. The flueless gas fire has a catalytic converter built into the fire and this takes all the nasty fumes out of the air when the fire is on. The only problem being with this type of fire is that I have never seen a good fluless fire, they always soot up and you are forever cleaning the fire. The fire in my opinion gives off a smell, not as much as you would need to complain about it, but its there. Heat outputs on these fires is usually only about 1kw to 2kw, so have very low heat outputs BUT they are 100% efficient
Radiant Gas Fires
A radiant gas fire is a more traditional type of gas fire that consists of white radiants (ceramic pots), hence the name ‘Radiant Gas Fire’. Radiant gas fires are economical to run and easy to control. Most radiant gas fires can be hearth or wall mounted and they are suitable for homes with traditional chimneys (Class 1 Flue), pre-fabricated flues (Class 2 Flue) or pre-cast flues.
LFE Gas Fires
A living flame effect gas fire otherwise known as the LFE, as the fire uses technology that simulates the flame effect of a traditional solid fuel fire such as a log fire or coal fire, this flame is generated by a gas powered system. The point of a LFE gas fire is to create the same realistic feel and warmth of a real solid fuel fire, without the usual associated hassle, such as soot and wood stockpiles. LFE fires are suitable for traditional chimneys (Class 1 Flue), pre-fabricated flues (Class 2 Flue) or pre-cast flues.
HE Gas Fires
HE energy efficient gas fires are a fantastic way of transforming your living room from the ordinary to the extraordinary. These high efficiency gas fires not only give you the chance to do your bit for the environment but they also offer you substantial savings on your gas bills. Our range of energy efficient gas fires offers no compromise where heating is concerned, using advanced burner systems our high efficiency gas fires not only reduce carbon emissions, they are more effective in converting gas into heat, enabling you to warm your home and keep more money in your pocket.
Convector Gas Fires
Convected heat is obtained from room air which is drawn behind the “firebox”, which contains the radiant elements or fuel bed of the fire and is then passed over a heat exchanger before returning into the room. The heat exchanger is heated by the hot flue products as they pass out of the fire on their way to the flue or chimney. The heated room air is always kept separate from the flue products.
