What Is Air Conditioning?

Air conditioning is the removal of heat from indoor air for thermal comfort. In another sense, the term can refer to any form of cooling, heating, ventilation, or disinfection that modifies the condition of air. An air conditioner (often referred to as AC or air con) is an appliance, system, or machine designed to change the air temperature and humidity within an area (used for cooling as well as heating depending on the air properties at a given time), typically using a refrigeration cycle but sometimes using evaporation, commonly for comfort cooling in buildings and motor vehicles.

How Does Air Conditioning Work?

An air conditioner is basically a refrigerator without the insulated box. It uses the evaporation of a refrigerant to provide cooling or heating. The mechanics of the evaporation cycle are the same in a refrigerator as in an air conditioning unit.

How Easy Is Air Conditioning To Install?

We have one of these in our office and it took us 3 hours to unpack, screw to the wall, place the outside unit on the wall brackets and connect the outside and inside unit up with the apropriate electrical and piping connections.

Running Costs For Air Conditioning

We have, where possible listed the running costs for each air conditiong unit product, these figures are based on 10 pence per Kw per hour and will vary depending on how much you pay for your electricity. To work out how much your unit will cost to run multiply the kW input figure (electrical) by how much you pay per kilowatt hour for your electricity supply.

Get The Best Out Of Your Air Conditioning

Thermostats should be set between 25–27°C. Every 1°C lower can increase running costs by up to 15% or cost you for repairs because they do like a break every so often. If there is a hot day forecast, then pre-cool your house the night before. This is especially effective if your house has a high thermal mass such as solid brick. This will allow your air conditioner to work at its optimum during the cool evening, saving power and wear and tear on the unit. It also allows the unit to keep on top of the heat load as it begins to warm up during the heat of the day.

Split System Air Conditioning

Air conditioning inverter split systems are A rated and use super efficient R410a refrigerant that won't harm the ozone. These units are ideal for hotels, offices, bedrooms, lounges, conservatories. Air conditioning split systems are very popular as the main unit is situated outside so the noise level is kept to a minimum. The internal unit is fitted to a metal mounting plate on a wall in the room to be cooled, whilst the external unit is situated outside the building. The two are connected using copper pipe. The external unit, or condenser, removes the heat from the room and dissipates it outside, along with any condensation that's built-up in the system, whilst the internal unit provides cooling. Most of our systems will heat the room as well when required.

Low Wall Air Conditioning

These low wall air conditioners are perfect for cooling conservatories because the indoor unit is smaller than that of conventional air conditioners and fits perfectly on most dwarf walls. Like all serious air conditioners, these are 'split' units with an indoor and an outdoor unit. The indoor unit simply fixes onto the internal wall and then a copper pipe goes through the wall and connects with the outdoor unit which either be mounted on a wall bracket or placed on the ground. The outdoor unit ( the compressor ) removes the heat from the room and dissipates it outside along with any condensation that has been collected in the system. The indoor unit provides the cooling and heating as required.

Delivery Of Your Air Conditioning Unit

The Air Conditioning units are quite heavy and are delivered by Palletway pallet services. The driver will unload from his lorry and wheel the unit to your front door for you. The driver is NOT insured to take your unit inside your home as it is a 2 man lift, so please make sure that there are 2 able bodied persons to do this on deivery.
